Get excited. Saturday, September 3rd, marks the start of the 2022 Badgers football season!
We’ve been looking forward to this since last Thanksgiving weekend when the Badgers battled the Gophers for Paul Bunyon’s axe. We have complete confidence in our team that they will reclaim the axe this year. And The Hub Realty team plans on supporting the Badgers every chance we get until this year’s rivalry game on November 26th.
UW school spirit is part of the identity of every alumni. We love how many old friends return for football season. But for alumni who have moved away, it can be hard to secure a hotel at the last minute. Since football season is upon us, we’ve compiled an extensive list of the best game-day hotels in Madison.
Graduate Madison
Graduate is a locally owned boutique hotel designed to make you feel like you’re back in college… but better. (It’s devoid of the bunkbeds and thin walls of Witte Hall!). Graduate has an impressive interior design that gives it a polished look while promoting school spirit. The hotel sits on Langdon Street alongside Lake Mendota. It’s a scenic 24-minute walk to Camp Randall Stadium. After the game is finished, continue the party at Camp Trippalindee, the hotel’s summer-camp-themed rooftop lounge.
The hotel has a two-night stay minimum. This is one of the most coveted game-day stays, and rooms fill up quickly. We recommend reserving your room as soon as possible.
Wisconsin Union Hotel
The Wisconsin Union is often touted as “the heart and soul” of UW so it makes sense to reserve a game day room here. The rooms are badger-themed and pristine. The union hotel also features a bowling alley, climbing wall, and bar. Before every home game, the union hosts an epic tailgate. There are games, live music, food and drink, and marching band and spirit squad performances.
Hilton Garden Inn Downtown Madison
The downtown Hilton Garden is friendly, fresh, and modern. The hotel features a restaurant, bar, and gym. It’s a convenient 15-minute walk from the hotel to Camp Randall Stadium. And your car will be safely parked in the secure Hilton parking lot. Relax in the fireplace lounge after your day of festivities and activities.
Best Western Plus Inntowner
The Best Western Plus is one of the most affordable options on our list, but it doesn’t sacrifice quality. Rooms are clean and well kept. And to get to the stadium, it’s only a one-mile walk through a beautiful, shady university neighborhood.
Fluno Center
The Fluno Center is university-owned lodging. It’s an extravagant center hosting conferences, events, and weddings. Staying at the Fluno Center will put you in the heart of the university (a 1-mile walk to the stadium!)
Hampton Inn and Suites
Adjacent to the university, the Hampton Inn has everything you need for a comfortable stay. Highlights include a complimentary hot breakfast, a hot tub (with waterfall feature!), and a pleasant 1-mile walk to the stadium.
Double Tree by Hilton
This is the second Hilton hotel on our list, but for good reason. Hilton is always a trustworthy brand for a comfortable stay. The Double Tree provides a free airport shuttle if you’re flying in from out of town. Their location is in the heart of downtown (a 1-mile walk to the stadium!). But our favorite part is that when you check in, you’re given a fresh warm cookie.

Interested in buying a game-day apartment?
Homes in Madison’s university district can be great investments. The university makes home values very stable, and it’s a highly sought-after location for Air BnBs and VRBOS. There will always be parents looking for rentals during move-in weekends, homecoming, and graduation. And it means you always have a place to stay during football season!
