Ryan Schmitz – Making All the Right Connections

Life and investments look very similar: oftentimes, they’re a puzzle. They’re both a series of goals and connections that inspire you to take that brave, next step forward.

I’ve always been able to take a step back from a situation – whether it’s a potential investment, a job opportunity, or just life in general – and see the whole picture. Leading others through that creative and exciting process as their facilitator is what I love most about the work I do with The Hub Realty.

I got my start in real estate almost immediately after graduating from UW-Wisconsin in 2010, where I bought my first investment property alongside a trusted friend. A few months after purchasing my second investment property, my wife, Katie, began her career as a Realtor selling condos in downtown Madison on her own.

Though my educational background was in finance and investment, and my early career landed me in various sales and marketing jobs, I always had a long-term vision in the back of my mind as I continued adding properties to our portfolio.

The dream?

To leave my stint in corporate America and link arms alongside my wife in pursuit of real estate as my full-time career. In 2018, we made yet another leap together as a couple – this time in business – and The Hub Realty was underway.

What’s particularly meaningful about our business, aside from serving clients in an area I’ve called home all my life, is the legacy of The Hub Realty itself. If you trace the Schmitz family history back to the late 1890s, you’ll discover The Hub began as a fine men’s clothier on the capitol square.

While it shut its doors almost 100 years later, it’s an incredible feeling to know that my family is carrying the same intentionality and loyalty to the Madison community, five generations later.

To secure this legacy, I have to ensure my work is aligned with investors who have the same reputation, with the ultimate level of integrity. I believe clients deserve honor and intentionality. To keep our investment relationships strong, it’s imperative that we protect all of our relationships and serve with transparency and complete honesty.

It’s important to keep the relationships strong with the people I care about the most in my life, too. When I’m not talking numbers, I’m spending time with my two sons and my wonderful wife. Any given weekend, you can find us enjoying everything the Isthmus has to offer. For me, it’s boating and kicking back with one of my favorite beers from Next Door Brewing Company.

It’s with this vision – a focus on family and the ties that bind our company name to our community – that we, at The Hub Realty, continue to build on the heritage and ideals the Schmitz family began so many years ago. It’s truly our most valuable asset as we help other families grow and invest in their own.
